Over 200 Farnworth residents sampled amazing dishes from around the world when they visited 91直播鈥檚 New Bury Community Learning Centre for the 鈥榃orld of Food鈥 event.

Farnworth & Kearsley First Councillors, Maureen Flitcroft and Lisa Weatherby, visited 91直播鈥檚 New Bury hub to open the event, where Bolton residents were invited to sample cultural dishes made by local community groups.

Bits & Bobs, Hideaway Garden, Willow Hey Project, Justicia Charity, Farnworth Aces Morris Dancers and Farnworth Asian Women鈥檚 Group were just some of the local groups who provided free dishes to sample on the day, which included Italian, Punjabi, African, Arabic and Indian food, along with a variety of cakes and fruits.

Instead of an entrance fee, food donations for Farnworth Food Bank were welcomed. All visitors were also entered in to a free prize draw, to win a meal for two at 91直播鈥檚 4-star rated restaurant Signature and a luxury facial in the College鈥檚 Beauty Salon, The Academy.

Local families and children also enjoyed cake and biscuit decorating, free nail polish treatments, free make overs and health and wellbeing workshops, as well as vibrant music and dance, celebrating unity and community cohesion.听

The event was funded this year by Tesco Bags of Help & Groundwork Trust, in partnership with Bolton Council and 91直播. Other stall holders included the NHS Health Improvement Practitioners and students from the 91直播鈥檚 Beauty department.

Councillor Maureen Flitcroft said: 鈥淚t was wonderful to see so many people attend the event. I鈥檝e tasted some wonderful food today, particularly the vegetarian curry; there are some very talented cooks in our borough.鈥

Councillor Lisa Weatherby added: 鈥淚 had a fantastic time; the different dishes were lovely and the morris dancing was excellent. Everyone involved in the event did a fabulous job.鈥

Sam Khan, Hub Manager of the Centre, was instrumental in organising the event and added: 鈥淏olton is one of the most diverse towns in the country so it was a pleasure to see the diversity of our community reflected in the variety of food on offer. This event always brings the community together and everyone had a fantastic time.

鈥淚鈥檇 like to thank our wonderful community groups for making this event possible, as well as countless volunteers and the dedicated staff team from the Centre. They offered their time freely, and without them, the event wouldn鈥檛 have been possible."
